Summary
All incoming students to UNC are required to bring computers to school with them. This provided a perfect opportunity to test the effectiveness of multimedia as a teaching tool. Retro Rocket created 16 learning modules that are currently supplementing the books and lectures used by the dental school. UNC is also selling the modules to other schools in CD-ROM format.
Retro Rocket researched and implemented a method for editing the learning module text online. This allowed the faculty to easily make many updates to the text before the final product was deployed.
Hundreds of images needed to be prepared for the presentations. Batch processing scripts were created and used to automate the preparation of all of the photographs and illustrations, saving weeks of production time.
Retro Rocket created the engine which runs the learning modules using Macromedia's Director software. Director allows for faster development than other solutions, Web and CD-ROM deployment, and supports more types of media (which makes future expansion of the engine easier).
